In accordance with the Redevelopment Act of the Florida State Statutes, Charlotte County government has established Community Redevelopment Agencies (CRAs) in areas where "slum" and "blight" exist. The goal of these CRAs is to encourage local initiative to revitalize older downtowns and declining neighborhoods.

County Opens Permitting Site in Englewood for Residential Storm-Related Permits

The Charlotte County Community Development Department has opened a pop-up permitting site at the Mac V. Horton West County Annex, located at 6868 San Casa Drive, Englewood. This location will assist homeowners and contractors with residential storm-related permits.
Multi-Agency Resource Center Open in Port Charlotte

A Multi-Agency Resource Center is open at the Port Charlotte Town Center mall to assist residents affected by Hurricane Milton. The center, located at 1441 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte (inside the mall, across from the FYE store), provides local and state resources to support recovery efforts.
Unlicensed Contracting During an Emergency is a Felony

A State of Emergency was declared by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Oct. 5, 2024, as a result of Hurricane Milton. Any person who does work without the correct licensure during a state of emergency may be charged with a felony.
